Queen Margarethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark

This week the Queen of Denmark hosted a sumptuous Gala dinner in Copenhagen to celebrate 40 years on the throne. Queen Margrethe, known as Daisy, was crowned after the death of her father on January 14th, 1972. She is the first ever female monarch to occupy the Danish throne, the seat of the oldest monarchy in Europe. Her popularity in Denmark has always remained high, with a poll last month indicating that she has at least 80% public support. In her spare time she is an aspiring artist.
