Diamond Jubilee portrait unveiled

The Palace have unveiled a new portrait of the Queen to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee. Ralph Heimans’ grand portrait depicts the Queen standing in all her regal finery, pausing to contemplate her sixty years of service by the very spot where she was crowned in Westminster Abbey in 1953. Her thoughtful look and loneliness as she stands in an empty abbey gives us the impression that we, as viewers, are almost intruding on her innermost thoughts. This creates a unique connection between everyone who will ever see this painting and the Queen, forever alone but always the Diamond Queen.
