kate william royal weddingCongratulations to Kate and William, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who have just announced that they are expecting their first child!!!

Here’s the official announcement, hot of the press at the palace:

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news. The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter. …

Further information: Hyperemesis Gravidarum is very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients.

  1. Oh lovely. I was thinking they were going to wait a little and enjoy being a couple. I just love watching Kate and I’m so glad she seems to have carved her own style and so forth away from the shadow of Diane who I adored. But, I must say wouldn’t it be nice if all new mom’s got to spend time in a well appointed hospital room for morning sickness. Hee Hee!

    1. I know exactly what you mean, they are such a lovely couple. And I’m so glad that William insisted on choosing his own wife and married for love.
I think that private healthcare in the UK does seem to be rather comprehensive 😉 Although I have been told that Charlotte Bronte died of a very similar condition, but she would not have had access to any healthcare remotely resembling what Kate Middleton will get. I’ve been told this morning that Kate’s on a drip and doing very well.

      1. I didn’t realize it was so serious. Upon first reading I thought she simply had the usual morning sickness. It’s too bad, pregnancy can be so wonderful but when you are that sick it takes the glow off pretty quick. But, it’s so nice to hear some good news! Keep us posted!
