Elizabeth II Becomes Britain’s Longest Reigning Monarch

At 5.30pm today, 9th September, the Queen becomes the longest reigning monarch in British history. This record had previously been held by Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

I would like to share with you my favourite portrait of the Queen, taken in Scotland. Standing alone, yet firm, in an empty landscape with storm clouds coming her way, she is a steadfast point in a dramatic landscape, echoing her constant presence throughout the tumultuous changes that our society has experienced in the last 60 years. Long may it continue!
